THE DAVE HOLMBERG SR. GOLF CLASSIC RASIES OVER $75,000 FOR ABBOTSFORD HOSPICE SOCIETY

On June 8th at Ledgeview golf course, a sold out golf tournament raised over $75,000 for Holmberg House/Abbotsford Hospice Society (AHS). The money raised will go a long way in supporting the programs run by AHS in our community.

David Turchen, Chair of the Abbotsford Hospice Society Board of Directors, says, “We at Hospice are very grateful for the community support. It was great see so many friends out on the course. Many thanks to the Holmberg family for all their efforts to put this together; it was a great way to honour Dave Sr.”  Turchen also paid tribute to Dave Holmberg Sr. and the Holmberg family during the dinner program (see attached photo – left to right David Turchen, Lee Holmberg, Phil Holmberg, Wanda Holmberg, Michelle Holmberg, Carol Waters. Dee Gorrell, and Mike Hardie).

Ron Kuehl, Executive Director of Abbotsford Hospice Society, added, “We are very grateful for the incredible support from the Abbotsford business and professional community in support of our first annual golf tournament in honor of Dave Holmberg. The tremendous support of our community on a very inclement day is a tribute to both the memory of Dave and the strength of our community. All funds received will provide needed support for the various programs and services offered through Holmberg House, Abbotsford’s Hospice. A special thanks to our organizing committee for a job very well done.”

The executive committee – Lee Holmberg, Phil Holmberg, Michelle Holmberg, Sid Bos, Mark Rushton, Dave Ethier, Debbie Ethier, Stacey Somerville, Gerry Hadwin and Marion Keys had been meeting since December 2017 to support this great event.  With the success of this year’s event, the date for next year is already in place at Ledgeview golf course on June 7, 2019.

BACKGROUND

This year, Abbotsford Hospice Society is not only celebrating 31 years of community support, but also the move into Holmberg House in 2016. Abbotsford’s premier 10-bed facility provides end-of-life care to adults as young as 19. The building also accommodates grief support groups, volunteer training, education seminars and one-on-one support services.

This golf tournament supports AHS in continuing to provide palliative patients in Abbotsford with a wide range of end-of-life services, as well as providing their families and loved ones with immediate and long-term grief support tailored to their specific situations. Time and time again, our services result in personal transformation and renewed hope.
